  1. GENERAL
    1. Related Documents: Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Special Conditions and other Division-1 Specification Sections, apply to work of this Section.
    2. Description of Work:
      1. Work included: The work shall include, but not limited to, all labor, materials and equipment to provide a complete ground mounted flagpole assembly installation as shown on the drawings and specified herein, including but not necessarily limited to the following:
        1. Custom wood flagpole with complete hardware and halyard for two flags.
    3. Related Work:
      1. Section 05500 -- Metal Fabrications
      2. Section 06100 -- Rough Carpentry
      3. Section 09800 -- Special Coatings
    4. Performance:
      1. Fabricate flagpole from select grade Douglas fir or equivalent wood material.
      2. Rust-proof steel powder-coated and baked enamel mounting with galvanized nuts, bolts, and washers to withstand wind loads to 90 M.P.H. wind velocity when flying a flag of appropriate size (or unflagged).
    5. Quality Assurance:
      1. Provide wood flagpole materials which comply with American National Standards Institute and the American Institute of Timber Construction as defined by ANSI/AITC National Standard A190.1-1992.
    6. Delivery, Storage, and Handling:
      1. Delivery to the site should occur when ready for final installation so that flag pole and accessories will not have to be stored on site. Pole should be properly cushioned, wrapped and inserted into durable shipping tube for transit to job site.
      2. Inspect materials upon delivery for damage. Any damage to the flagpole is unacceptable and shall be returned to the shipper for replacement or repair (if possible). Tariffs prescribe that damage reports must be submitted in writing to the common carrier within 30 days of delivery. Minor chips and scratches occurred during installation may be repaired with touch-up paint.
      3. Protect Flagpole finish during installation.
    7. Project Conditions:
      1. Existing Conditions: If conditions are encountered which differ significantly from the assumptions indicated in the Contract Documents regarding typical conditions, immediately notify the Architect and do not proceed without further instruction.
    8. Sequencing and Scheduling:
      1. Coordination of the work of this section with the work of other entities is critical to avoid damage to interfacing work. Refer to Division 1 Section.
    9. Submittals:
      1. Provide submittals in compliance with Division 1 sections "Submittals" and "Shop Drawings, Product Data and Samples" for the items herein described:
        1. Product Data: Manufacturer's technical
        2. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings, or refer to construction drawings.

    2. Materials:
      1. Select Douglas fir pole (tight vertical grain) 11-12% moisture content or less. Mount on pre-drilled powder-coated and baked enamel finished channel irons as specified by manufacturer.
      2. Gold anodized top ball, diameter as specified by manufacturer. double-sheave stationary truck with stainless steel screws.
      3. 5/16" polyester solid braid halyard (rope loop), brass swivel snaps with vinyl covers to prevent scuffing.
      4. Shop Applied Paint:
        1. Primer: Two coats exterior enamel primer paint.
        2. Finish: Four (4) coats minimum exterior gloss enamel paint.
        3. Provide finish touch-up paint for use on site.
      5. Flags:
        1. Cotton or nylon (depending on preference) American flag with sewn stripes and embroidered stars. Size proportionate to length of pole as provided by manufacturer.
  3. EXECUTION
    1. Installation:
      1. General: Install flagpole in accordance with final shop drawings, manufacturer's data and detailed instructions.
      2. Excavation: Excavate for foundation concrete to neat clean lines. Provide forms where required due to unstable soil conditions. Remove rubbish from excavation and moisten earth before placing concrete.
      3. Concrete: Provide concrete composed of portland cement, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and water, mixed in proportions to attain 28-day compressive strength of at least 3000 PSI. Use not less than 5 sacks of portland cement complying with ASTM C 150, per cubic yard of wet concrete. Place immediately after mixing. Perform chuting to avoid segregation of mix. Compact concrete in place by use of vibrators to consolidate. Moisten-cure exposed concrete for at least 7 days, or use non-staining curing compound in freezing weather. Finish trowel exposed concrete surfaces to smooth, dense surface. Provide positive slope for water runoff to base perimeter.
      4. Flagpole installation: Install flagpole as indicated and in compliance with final shop drawings and manufacturer's instructions. Touch up nicks with paint supplied by manufacturer.
