Possibly the most challenging pole we've ever built now stands alongside The Mayflower II at famous Plymouth Rock. The assignment from The Department of Environmental Management, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, was to match the look of the masts, spars, and yards aboard the replica of the original Mayflower which landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620. Special attention had to be paid to the grain and hue of the Douglas fir selected as well as the finish to allow the overall 40 foot pole to blend into the old-style nautical look of this famous site. Custom-fabricated welded black steel rigging was supplied much like that used to rig the triple-masted Mayflower. We are extremely proud of this handsome and historically accurate nautical pole. You can view all this yourself on your visit to Pilgrim Memorial State Park, Plymouth, MA (508) 866-2580. Or go to www.state.ma.us/dem/parks/plgm.htm on the World Wide Web. |
