The Martin Mason building in Deadwood, SD was constructed between 1893 and 1897 and is actually two separate buildings for two stories with a common third floor which was used as the Odd Fellows Hall back around the turn of the century. Its current owner and restorer, Blake Haverberg's first cousin "three times removed" was Eben Martin, one of the building's original owners. The 20 ft clear, natural Doug fir Hennessy House flagpole is anchored into the cupola bracing and protrudes through its roof as did the original pole as chronicled in old photographs.

To learn more go to www.martinmasonhotel.com or visit historic Deadwood, South Dakota where the entire town is on the National Historic Register and spend some time with the ghosts of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Then stop by the Martin Mason building and meet its present owner/restorer.

As an alternate to a painted Douglas fir pole, you may wish your pole's natural wood grain left exposed and sealed with a satin finish sealer. Note the beauty of the amber wood tone and the handsome bronze plaque. -> image

Note the gold flying eagle finial atop this pole -- this particular installation is finished with actual gold-leafing for exceptional brilliance on a sunny day.

Several natural finish Hennessy House wood poles add rustic accent to the mountain-style restaurant and tavern The Buckhorn, in Sierra City, CA., in this fall photo. ->

Here's an example how a Hennessy House natural finish pole doesn't have to be mounted into the ground. This owner's home is in June Lake, CA near Mammoth Mountain. He chose to have his 24 footer at his deck level and customized its mounts to be lagged into the deck support system with added iron bracing. The overall look of the pole fits the setting and the 24 ft height breaks the A-frame of the snow-shedding roof.
